Turns out people that reinstalled windshield didn't plug in radar module that is behind the rearview. People are saying "oh my 90s car wouldn't do this!" - But even those era cars have safety interlocks against starters running when in gear.
The primary problem here is safety.
- If vehicles had better "diagnostics" modes, this wouldn't happen.
The secondary problem is systematic.
- If you have critical components on the same CAN bus as non-essential stuff, a vehicle can not work for dumb reasons.
I've seen videos of a rear sensor of some sort on a GM putting a vehicle into limp mode due to corrosion in the connector.
