You'd be very disappointment if you installed just Linux onto a computer - it wouldn't boot up.

To get a booting computer, you'd need to install a systemd/Linux or GNU/Linux distro.

That is quite a poor reason to install GNU/Linux - you'll end up disappointed and confused when you run into proprietary sabotage and it turns out you sometimes don't have better performance.
