Ticket machines in the vehicles sounds like a bad idea indeed. In a normal city ticket machines are placed in stops and stations and sell tickets and passes. But in Melbourne these machines only top up the pt card, so anyone without a card is screwed unless there is a place nearby selling them. I find it hard to comprehend how this regressive design was approved in the first place
