Nemo_bis 🌈@cwebber IIRC, Noam Chomsky wrote that over 60 % of MIT was funded with DoD money (until the 1970s?) and the DoD never checked where the money went. I don't know how much DoD money the MIT gets these days but it's probably still substantial. How much goes to FLOSS I don't know.
