Relatedly, a tip for anyone working with incredibly lovely and fairly expensive fabrics, and experiencing trepidation about cutting into it:
First what you need is a desk that is slightly too small, and a back that does not enjoy cutting on the floor. Then you try to manage the volume of fabric to settle the pattern pieces nicely. And then you think and or mutter to yourself "There's too much bastard fabric on this bastard desk" and cut out the pieces so you can stop dealing with it.
