Meanwhile, in what is to be the #CinnamonLinenSkirt I have ironed all of my hecking fabric and it's so lovely that I absolutely do want to make the skirt out of it. Will there be enough of it for it? Is my skirt pattern absolutely garbage? We'll see! It took me about 45 minutes to iron it all so it feels like there should be enough!
Relatedly, here's an old fashion illustration of what I am vaguely going for.

Sini Tuulia (sinituulia@eldritch.cafe)'s status on Monday, 09-Dec-2024 03:47:17 JST Sini Tuulia Without doing anything to the back gore I've added a cool 64cm to the hem circumference without much interfering with the shape of the pieces. It should still all fit pretty well, and if I'm correct I'll probably have enough fabric left for more than a little vest, perhaps even a little jacket. We'll see.

Sini Tuulia (sinituulia@eldritch.cafe)'s status on Monday, 09-Dec-2024 03:47:18 JST Sini Tuulia A little over three metres of hem? That's nothing! Let's see if I can easily add a bit more hem flare and a lot more back gore.
I am being responsible and adding it onto the paper patterns, too, instead of chalking it onto the fabric. -

Sini Tuulia (sinituulia@eldritch.cafe)'s status on Monday, 09-Dec-2024 03:47:19 JST Sini Tuulia In the preliminary step of setting the paper pattern pieces on the fabric and eyeballing it, it looks like I may in fact have a lot of extra fabric. It is of course at this stage that I'm also going to measure the hem circumference of the pattern as it stands, and ponder if I'd actually need to have far more hem. Am now, of course, interrupted by a cinnamon orange cat lounging across my arms.

Sini Tuulia (sinituulia@eldritch.cafe)'s status on Monday, 09-Dec-2024 03:47:20 JST Sini Tuulia All but one of my nice little tailored jackets are black, so they should look quite nice with the very very vibrant brown skirt, and it's almost the exact same hue as the cognac of my nice new Oxfords. It might look very nice, if I don't fuck it up!

Limnobotanik (limnobotanik@norden.social)'s status on Monday, 09-Dec-2024 03:48:28 JST Limnobotanik @sinituulia I bow my head to your genius in cutting out fabric. Under 2 metres for such a big skirt? Mansfield Park's Mrs. Norris would have been proud of you (and nicked the remaining fabric for herself probably)

Sini Tuulia (sinituulia@eldritch.cafe)'s status on Monday, 09-Dec-2024 03:48:29 JST Sini Tuulia Done. I bought four metres of fabric thinking it would be a little bit scant for my needs... But am now left with a little bit over two metres of fabric!
Whatever time and space dilation/contraction shenanigans that seem to happen around me are probably due to my multitudinous blood sacrifices to the gods of sewing, and have made some kind of magic happen here, as well. I'm not complaining, just a bit confused.
Now to overlock all the pieces before they fray.valhalla likes this. -

Sini Tuulia (sinituulia@eldritch.cafe)'s status on Monday, 09-Dec-2024 03:48:31 JST Sini Tuulia Relatedly, a tip for anyone working with incredibly lovely and fairly expensive fabrics, and experiencing trepidation about cutting into it:
First what you need is a desk that is slightly too small, and a back that does not enjoy cutting on the floor. Then you try to manage the volume of fabric to settle the pattern pieces nicely. And then you think and or mutter to yourself "There's too much bastard fabric on this bastard desk" and cut out the pieces so you can stop dealing with it.
