I freely admit, I'm something of a 70s industrial purist: TG, Monte Cazazza, etc. But SP did an amazing job of taking primordial industrial and making it approachable by regular folks.
The credit for an invention goes to the person who first explains it well enough that nobody else needs to invent it. And, well, no matter how brilliant SPK's "Leichenschrei" is, you just can't hand that to normal people and tell them to listen. It won't work.
