@papajohn @pluralistic I think "enshittification" is too broadly applied if it's applied to fruit breeding/growing in this case.

Fruit breeding/growing has plenty of capitalism in it as practiced today, but I am yet unaware of the phenomenon of making something free & service excellent 'til a massive market is locked in, and then purposefully undermining that in order to monetize as much as possible.

There are tradeoffs between taste/aroma and shelf life that are built into plant species.
