hagen terschürenthe notion that the ai energy demand will be fixed by efficiency gains in the future is a borderline lie. i don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we are done with doubling efficiency every two years. and we’ve been done for quite a while. if you watch the pc space most of the performance gains come from pumping more energy into the chips. a high end gaming pc will commonly use power supplies rated for 1,000 watts or higher. consoles have increased in size because they need the cooling.
