This is to reduce spam and create a better experience for everyone. You can still follow accounts and browse X for free"
Self replies from xDaily say "This policy was previously only active in New Zealand and the Philippines" and "The policy was initially being tested to help reduce spam and improve the experience for users overall."
A reply from Elon Musk (a man noted for having the world's thinnest skin) says "Unfortunately, a small fee for new user write access is the only way to curb the relentless onslaught of bots.
