um... no? If you can walk away, you are free. If someone can take your apartment for not paying rent .. well you broke your contract.

Being a slave literally means you are forced to live where someone tells you, forced to do labor by someone, and if you don't, you risk torture or death. If you can walk away, and the nation has no debtors prisons, you are literally not a slave.

Being in debt is not slavery. Not unless you're literally an incarcerated debt slave.
