@sun in Baldur's Gate there's a treasure guarded by (I think) a lawful evil devil. you can kill it and take the loot like most D&D encounters, but if you have a high enough wisdom score you can look at its contract with the evil wizard who summoned it and find a loophole that lets it leave back to its home plane
