The post mentions COBOL. As awful as COBOL can be, it is literally memory safe. It's almost always reversible if you deploy a mistake (COBOL is mostly used for batch processing, which is why is so common of settlements, insurance, banks). It's literally a proto-SQL-like language, and was designed by one of the few, good female engineers (before the era of diversity hiring)
