At the national level, Democrats see themselves as bureaucrats and middle managers, keeping the economy stable and staying out of the way of corporations and the donor class.

Like the Rockefeller Republicans they are, they only care about social issues insofar as it reduces conflict and promotes economic stability. Otherwise marginalized groups get scapegoated and targeted by bipartisan social purges.

This mindset works hand in glove with conservatives and can never challenge fascism.
