@tek @1password one similar experience for me is iLoq electromechanical keys. When you insert the key into the lock, the motion generates the electricity needed for reading the tag in the key. If you insert the key too fast, it doesn't work.
Giving up the expectation of "every time I use the right key, the door opens" has been very painful.
