      Retention was terrible when we tried Mastodon two years ago. Building Elk helped us stick longer, but most folks would drop quickly. This time is very different. Bluesky has no friction for devs. It is clicking for everyone. Enough of the community is here already. If we want it, we can make it work

      i think it’s not that “choosing a server” is confusing to non-technical folks — it’s more that it does not have the same kind of consequences as on mastodon. on mastodon, choosing a server is like choosing where to build a house. on bluesky, choosing a server is like choosing an internet provider.
