Dear Mastodon,
Thank you.
Last night (and again this morning) I went on a doomscrolling expedition.
It was my first one in a few years, as I'd tried very hard to kick my old doomscrolling habit. In fact, it was my first proper doomscroll since I fled the bird site. It was also my first doomscroll that ended well.
My feed had enough doom on it to scratch the itch and help give voice to the feelings that sent me doomscrolling. It also had cats, lots and lots of cats.* It also had people productively grieving and talking about how to help each other and what we can do next.
It also ended. I ran out of doom to scroll. That was the amazing part. Back on the bird site, there was infinite doom. Over here, I can read posts faster than they show up on my feed. Sure, I could follow more people, but I kind of like it this way. It was amazing. I repeat, I RAN OUT OF DOOM TO SCROLL.
Anyway, I wanted to thank the community that exists here. You gave me the doom I needed, but you also gave me a way forward, you gave me so many cats, and then you stopped and told me it was time to go to sleep.
*I cannot recommend #CatsOfMastodon highly enough!
