Nicholas Valentino, a political scientist at the U of Michigan & colleagues Carly Wayne & Marzia Oceno studied the attitudes of voters in the 2016 race. They found something unusual that didn’t appear in any of the previous 3 presidential elections: People who scored higher on an index of subtly #sexist attitudes—including that the push for #gender equality was overdone — were more likely to vote for #Trump, even controlling for variables such as partisanship & ideology.
