You live in a prison, you can not leave the prison, but the prison does sometimes serve "free beer", but the beer is proprietary and also you also need to pay for it too.

You live outside of the prison, you are free to live out any type of lifestyle you've ever wanted and you'll be free to travel to anywhere you want and you're free to help yourself to an effectively unlimited drink supply or pay for such drinks.


Free means freedom - "free beer" is arguably a contradiction, as nothing consumable like beer is ever actually gratis.
