- Embed this noticeAlthough Rush's debut album released in 1974, the band actually formed in 1968, and YYZ didn't release until 1981 (on the Moving Picture album).
Rush used 7/4 time extensively, including in mainstream hits like Subdivisions and Tom Sawyer. Needless to say, it's rare for any song using an odd time signature to get regular radio play
Their period of peak creativity began in 1976 with the release of 2112, and continued almost a full decade until 1985 with the release of Power Windows. In my estimation, most bands get about 10 years of peak creativity before running out of steam (compare Iron Maiden's stellar 1980s work to the pathetic 1990 No Prayer for the Dying).
