And what ultimately ended up happening is what ALWAYS ends up happening-- the true oldest, most entrenched and savvy powers in the world, played these two philosophical upstarts against each other, and ended up effectively neutralizing any significant opposition to their regime for a hundred years. Pax americana-- If you asked me in 1980 if it was worth it, I'd say wholeheartedly yes. Here in 2024 I'm not so sure.
