They sketched their idea on some notebook paper &amp; asked if I could build it. I had built lots of fence, a couple canoes, &amp; pounded nails on my folks place, so I said sure, got some graph paper to work out some details, &amp; got to it. A partly cloudy sky, 4 horses coming to greet me on the commute from my tipi across the horse pasture to the house under construction on the far side, with the slopes of Bald Mt. just across the river, which flows by their tipi on the left. We contracted the concrete work, &amp; with occasional help for heavy lifting, I framed, sheathed installed windows, roughed in electrical &amp; plumbing for the house &amp; furniture workshop. D &amp; P are both incredibly creative people, D having made a successful career as a twig furniture builder, from whom I learned that craft, &amp; P is both a master gardener &amp; chef. I had taken architectural drafting in high school vo-tech, but didn't bother to draw official plans, as my mind at the time was capable of visualizing the whole process. I checked out a book from the library with span tables to make sure it would be structurally sound, and another on plumbing &amp; electrical. A bit of reading comprehension goes a long way. We made a few alterations after framing, to get the view just right from an upstairs window, something hard to fine tune until we were actually up in that space.</a></label><br><a href="https://files.toad.social/media_attachments/files/110/330/306/731/352/696/original/d280527d304bee6d.jpeg" rel="external">https://files.toad.social/media_attachments/files/110/330/306/731/352/696/original/d280527d304bee6d.jpeg</a></li><li><label><a rel="external" href="https://gnusocial.jp/attachment/3287242">The finished house 23 years later. Blue sky above Bald Mt. behind the stuccoed house. A couple fruit trees on the right, obscuring the workshop, an artistically laid out produce garden in the foreground. The home has a semi-circular stair tower on the east side extending down to the basement &amp; up to the bedroom. The whimsical windows in the tower took a little head scratching. I laid the foundation with cement blocks up to grade, then framed 4 curved sections with 20' 2"x6" studs after having the local power coop place a huge 20'x2' lodgepole pine on the footing in the basement. P. probably has photos of the process, I was too busy at the time. I remember feeling a bit of a buzz having all that come together.
