1990. A partly cloudy sky, 4 horses coming to greet me on the commute from my tipi across the horse pasture to the house under construction on the far side, with the slopes of Bald Mt. just across the river, which flows by their tipi on the left. We contracted the concrete work, & with occasional help for heavy lifting, I framed, sheathed installed windows, roughed in electrical & plumbing for the house & furniture workshop. D & P are both incredibly creative people, D having made a successful career as a twig furniture builder, from whom I learned that craft, & P is both a master gardener & chef. I had taken architectural drafting in high school vo-tech, but didn't bother to draw official plans, as my mind at the time was capable of visualizing the whole process. I checked out a book from the library with span tables to make sure it would be structurally sound, and another on plumbing & electrical. A bit of reading comprehension goes a long way. We made a few alterations after framing, to get the view just right from an upstairs window, something hard to fine tune until we were actually up in that space.
