I think the fundamental constraint here is that shaders are compiled for a chip with a wildly different architecture than a CPU, a chip for which Swift is completely unsuitable. Shaders aren’t in C either; they’re in a highly constrained shader language whose syntax is meant to feel like C. You could make a Swift-flavored shader language too, I suppose, but it wouldn’t be Swift.
