I think some things are a bit different than your assumptions though - my mother has actually been reasonably diligent in getting more and more of her stuff out of here. And my father very explicitly does not care about most of the things outside his own room or upstairs - he says if he can't even remember it is there or that it is his (which is true for most of it) I can do with it whatever I want.
