The only reason I had a TV was for the PS4. Since I'm not planning to buy any more consoles, I won't have to find non-connected televisions. But if I bought a TV, I'd go with enc's idea above.

> connects to 'net to get firmware updates. "Oops! These updates require an account with the vendor."

> 2 months later, connects again to fix bugs in the original firmware updates. "Oops! Your account is locked until you provide a cellphone number."

> 3 months later, connect because the TV is flashing a notice across the screen that it will deactivate unless you connect it. "Oops! Your account is not verified because you did not upload a photo of your ID card."

> And so on until you tire of connecting and disconnecting it and leave it connected all the time.
