So called environmentalists cannot imagine civilization living in beneficial coexistence with nature. This is a failure of imagination. For thousands of years, societies lived not only in harmony with nature but actively contributed to the wellbeing of ecosystems to which we are a part. It is a total failure of imagination to think that we can not do so again. Short sighted exploitation of nature pushing natural systems and relations into a position of collapse is not an inherent quality of humanity but rather the result of a system of incentives--global capitalism. We can set up a system of incentives otherwise, a sustainable and co-beneficial system is possible. Humans are clever and nature is resilient, but so long as capitalism continues to exist, the antagonism will remain.
