The reasons being they cared more about Spain (where the ruling class controlled lucrative silver mines) and because having Hannibal win the war would basically propel the populist Barca family into the drivers seat of national politics, and they couldn’t have that.
Considering how the Punic Wars ended, maybe the biggest own goal in history.
