It seems that up until the mid 70s, the issue was that Banks were discriminating against women, the new law prevented this.
Those saying "this doesn't mean women were not allowed". You are wrong.
This is how bigotry works. When the law turns a blind eye to discrimination, you are "not allowed".
When a restaurant puts up a sign banning people based on skin pigmentation, those people are "not allowed" regardless of laws.
Don't diminish the impact of discrimination through anecdotal exceptions.
