@thomasfuchs As an electrical engineer, I've run the numbers on a magnetosphere for the red planet. It's not impossible from a power perspective. What really is a challenge is deploying either a shielding Lagrange generator (a silly solution but seems to be what everyone talks about) or, far more feasible a simple coil of high temperature superconducting cable around the equator. So, ALL you have to do is make thousands of miles of yet to be invented high temperature superconductors.
