many small Mastodon servers, such as my own https://berserker.town, haven't really seen many new account registrations at all during the #TwitterMigration.
people are picking the larger servers, which makes sense, because it feels like the safer choice.
the drawback is that it goes against the very way this network is ideally meant to operate: we're supposed to spread out a little.
why?
to avoid single points of failure.
to avoid monopolisation.
to avoid having a select few individuals exerting too much power and influence.
to avoid the situation we've seen playing out over the past few days where servers like mastodon.social have struggled to keep up with the huge influx of new users.
