- Embed this noticeI played around with a bunch of settings on the X1 in Linux an got it a little better. I should try putting Windows back on to see if it's still as bad. I could try reapplying thermal past as well.
But I dunno man. Even my Framework 13 throttles occasionally. It's no where near as bad as the X1 Carbon, and the fans do at least turn up to full blast. It' still fairly good, but a little under the cooling/performance I got out of the Dell with its larger chassy and better thermal solution.
I suspect that 11th gen chip on the X1, in that form factor, just isn't going to get adequate cooling.
Lunduke also mentioned the Framework 13 throttling. Cooling these chips is always going to be a challenge. The newer ARM/aarch64 stuff might improve that a lot, but there seems to be a lot of questions about reported performance on Windows. I really hope Linux doesn't get left behind.
