- Embed this notice@iwillbite The reason why a death penalty shouldn't be implemented is because there have been many cases of innocent people getting convicted and executed and then found to be innocent.
If I remember correctly, one study extrapolated cases of executed inmates found to be innocent via DNA evidence and estimated that up to ⅓ of inmates on death row are likely to be innocent.
Despite how a life sentence without parole pretty similar to a death sentence, at least those found to be innocent can be released.
A legitimate justice system is not focused on "giving criminals what they deserve" - it's rather focused on preventing a recurrence of behavior that has lead to harm in other people - although some people can only be adequately stopped from harming others with a life sentence, that is not the vast majority of people.
