Apple has a huge advantage here too: people who use Patreon on iOS are going to think it's _Patreon_ doing this (those who aren't aware of this) because of how Apple works to make the clear (read: economic) things hidden. Patreon might not lose users (just might see a lot of uninstalls or drop on subscriptions on mobile), but that hurts even smaller options (like what if https://comradery.co/ had made a client for iOS? It would be DOA because of how the model works).
