ChrisCurious: how so, exactly? What's surprising you about their response?
I'm from the Midwest, and spent a couple years in Minnesota (St. Joseph, 3rd grade, 1969; St. Paul, 1980). So I guess I've always been aware of it, and appreciate its natural beauty and liberal disposition.
