      [Edit: I'm still not really back, but I'm gonna ask y'all to recognize the implications of the fact that you thought I meant "gone for good" rather than "stepping away" and that you've internalized that as a likelihood for some people, in this place.] Yeah no, I'm out. Some of y'all need to get your houses in order, and a LOT of y'all need to look in a mirror or otherwise take a moment of deep introspective reflection before you address other people.

      I'm not interested in having Fedi 'splained to me. I'm just saying why more Black folk are on BlueSky: 1. It should be almost impossible for a new, non-technical user to onboard onto the Fediverse and accidentally join a server where they will receive racist death threats. 2. It should not be possible for racists to reply to a Black user's post with hateful gore images, without other users on the server knowing it. 3. It should be easy for a new admin to default into a safe, general denylist.

      Bluesky has reply-gating (you can set who can reply to a post, like people you follow or a given list or no one) and is now testing out post-publication reply locking. I just want to yell for a second about how humane and consent-forward these features are, especially after seeing some people here losing their minds when someone asked for gating recently because they felt (alas, not a paraphrase) entitled to always be able to respond. [ETA sorry gotta mute thread to save my brain ✌️]

      Newsflash. 🗣️ 🗣️ 🗣️ White LGBTQ+ people can be racist. Is that something we need to say? So many responses here being like, as a trans person, I got such better community on Mastodon from the beginning. Change that to "As a WHITE trans person." Take a look at what Black, Arab and other nonwhite trans people have been saying on here, and how you've been treating them.

      On the high street of my small town, there's a tanning salon right next door to a Black hairdresser. I see white people streaming into the first, and Black people into the other. Being Black I know absolutely nothing about what goes on in one, and everything about the other. We inhabit the same space, but live parallel lives. I guess I am gingerly making an analogy to the experience Black people have been having on Mastodon, and white people's cluelessness about it. 1/n

      This man’s entire timeline is seeking out Black people and harassing them. Including me. Yet he still has an account. Make it make sense. Stop playing. You guys talk about blocklists. Well here it is. Clear and consistent targeted racial harassment. #sealioning. #fediblock. *edit He has now moved to another instance and is bragging about how he does this to avoid banning. 2 other people are doing this as well.
