A relatively common food in pre-schools in my area is hot rice with milk, butter, sugar (brown or granulated), and cinnamon. Sometimes raisins. It's not quite rice pudding because it's not terribly thick. I have no idea what this dish is called but it's a heavy comfort food for me. I had a bowl this morning and I haven't had it in quite a while.
I'm curious if it's a regional thing or if it's common. When I've talked to folks outside the south, it doesn't seem to be so universal.
