- Embed this notice@dushman @Bonsai Yeah, although I will note that capitalist regimes that curtail or eliminate land speculation and have communitarian focus (much of East Asia falls under this category, and Taiwan especially is a standout example here) suffer relatively little of the problems you just stated. And I don't mean this in a vulgar "in America, even the poor own refrigerators and color TVs" way, I mean when there aren't arbitrary blockers for productive activity, productive activity tends to happen and society as a whole tends to be better off for it. For similar reasons, I oppose means-tested welfare systems, as the value judgement of whether someone is "deserving" or not tends to lead to worse outcomes in the long term.
