bss, super genius@grayson @draft13 I cannot directly compare as I picked Pleroma over Mastodon for resource/technology reasons and never really looked back, but I'd say I'm satisfied with my similarly-small instance which basically just keeps chugging along without issues. I haven't engaged with the Pleroma project much, but the software is good for my purposes, and their IRC support channel is decent. Elixir is nice but I haven't had cause to make significant local changes yet.
