I would count the German ICE as an example for Awesome but Impractical. It can be fast but it can be annoying that you can't open the windows. An Intercity is a bit slower, but you can open the windows.

There is a reason why we Germans have certain memes about the Deutsche Bahn

• "It's not summer before the air conditioning failed for the first time this year and not winter before the heating failed the first time this year."

• "The Deutsche Bahn has five enemies - the seasons and the own customers."

(Part of the hostility against the own customers is that they want to purge cash and force their own customers to use smartphones and apps.)

It's a kinda noice side-effect of the European Football Championship, that foreigners and international press like the New York Times and the British Independent have noticed it.
