@Suiseiseki remember back in the days of the WRT54g when every router had firmware that just werked? those days are over.

It's even better with some other chipsets. You gotta buy the Very Specific Router Chipset to get working Wi-Fi. This was a router at my old house that was a real piece of crap that overheated.

Also there's AX routers with OpenWRT, but like I said you gotta buy the Very Specific Router that your local Wal-Mart or even Micro Center probably won't sell:

As for Tivoization, lol lmao, one vendor tried to lock it down and it was a mess. But it has happened at least once.

Is the Netgear Nighthawk R8000 actually an exception to Broadcom chips?
If you look at the Netgear R8000 Nighthawk page there is a note that says NOTE: The hardware in this device is a bit of an exception to the above: the wireless devices are fully supported by the in-kernel brcmfmac driver and work well. Is this actually true? In my experience I have had continual problems with OpenWrt on this router and I've found plenty of other people that have the same issues as me that appear to be a result of the brcmfmac driver failing in some capacity. Here's a handful ...

      OpenWrt support for TP-LINK Archer AX50 v1
Hi I just bought new router TP-LINK Archer AX50 V1. I have searched web to look for any info about possible OpenWRT works on that router but without many findings. All what I have founded was more like expectations and wishes. Could someone confirm or refuse possibility to develop OpenWRT compilation for AX50 V1? Thank You! 🙂
