When I was gardening at my last house, I had a wire rack shelf unit in the kitchen that I was using for starting seeds. I guess you could pick up one of these and build your garden thing inside of it. So you can at least collect the water.

Thing about hydroponics is you'll also need the aquarium. So learn fish first.
