There was a library called libiberty, which is mostly forgotten now, but it was linked into every program compiled with DJGPP, and that's how I remember it.
It was notable for the pun when you wanted to link it. You had to type "-liberty".
There was so much potential for trolling. All you had to do was tell RMS that "minus liberty" sounded bad. An alternative way of passing parameters would be added to gcc and linker, and Stallman would evangelize that you should write "+liberty" from now on.
