If the problem is that many Americans feel insecure about how little they know, how exactly does advocating for choice that affirms their ignorance help anyone?
To be clear, this question is not meant as a liberal exhortation to educate folk. The problem isn't ignorance, it's insecurity.
That insecurity about one's ignorance: that's the problem to tackle.
