Getting to herd immunity is going to require taking a lot of steps to reduce transmission. Including a robust herd immunity through vaccination enough that in the off chance that someone *does* get infected that the people around them have a layer of protection from infection via their immune system being trained by a vaccine.
And it also puts *our* lives in danger when our local hospital gets flooded with under/unvaccinated people getting covid. When someone in my life needs to go to the hospital for some kind of heart issue, they now have to walk through a room full of coughing, unmasked people -- even if they *didn't* have covid going into the hospital now there's a significant risk of getting it *in* the hospital. And then there's the problem of doctors and nurses being burned out to the point that 58% of nurses in my provinces are openly talking about quitting in the near future, and a huge number of ER closures due to understaffing, thanks to that burnout. And of course people like my aunt, being sent home from the hospital (due to their resources being taken up by covid) dying from otherwise treatable cancers. So yeah, your helping to keep the pandemic going is helping to kill people
