Before Katrina diesel used to be cheaper than regular but it became more expensive than premium after Katrina. The reason given was that it was in higher demand due to moving supplies and running generators.

However, it never went back down. Never let a good crisis go to waste, right?

The sad thing is most people don't even remember it being cheaper and the ones who do have no idea when the switch happened or what caused it but I watched it in real time and thought it was odd.
