IIRC most anime sells 1000 to 3000. The profitability line is at 4000 - 6000 or something? But you have to remember animes are usually marketing material for the manga/LN so they can get S2 even if the sales were low because it boosted the original material popularity, the studio also gets a cut of the anime art merch IIRC too

But 9k is crazy. The anime didn't have a super high budget either. It definitively was profitable
