Exactly — and when you want to blame the other guy for something, bringing out the fact that he looks different is the first thing that comes to mind, people like simple things — even if they are wrong.
But we don't even have to theorize in layman's terms, I'm not making this up — there are plenty of researches into this, heterogeneous communities perform better economically. There are other good reasons for multiculturalism (or whatever), but economic performance was never one of them — this is just an outright false claim.
