i know freewrite does this too and i suspect part of the reason is because sending stuff to your own cloudshit gives you extreme ownership over the other ends. you don't have to issue OS updates when twitter changes token bullshit and you can add other endpoints without having to do anything to the embedded device either.

convenient, though, that you get to charge a vig on letting people actually use the hardware they bought though.
