iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Monday, 29-Apr-2024 14:42:51 JST iced depresso i know freewrite does this too and i suspect part of the reason is because sending stuff to your own cloudshit gives you extreme ownership over the other ends. you don't have to issue OS updates when twitter changes token bullshit and you can add other endpoints without having to do anything to the embedded device either.
convenient, though, that you get to charge a vig on letting people actually use the hardware they bought though. -

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Monday, 29-Apr-2024 14:44:24 JST iced depresso @jamie these are people selling 300-2000$ monitor-recorders for video. i'm fairly certain the cloudshit is about bilking you for more with a side of usability. but eh. -

Jamie (jamie@fedi.jametek.com)'s status on Monday, 29-Apr-2024 14:44:26 JST Jamie @icedquinn Cloudshit, paid or free, its always annoying. It just ends up causing more problems than it solves, and, it doesn’t really solve anything that can’t be solved in better ways.

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Monday, 29-Apr-2024 14:46:14 JST iced depresso @jamie i can't imagine its just completely undoable to put in an option to send to a custom RIST/RTMP address over the ethernet port, but not taping that on to the linux environment they already stole to make the GUI nets them a neat side income.
i dunno a better company that makes those things but i'm still :blobfoxdisapprove: that they went this direction
